The Brooklyn Nets have a lot of questions that need to be answered and voids in their current roster that need to be filled. More importantly, they are still trying to find their identity. By hiring Sean Marks, there’s no question that the majority of these questions will be answered.
Both the trade deadline and the All-Star game have came and went while Brooklyn stood at the sidelines not making any noise. Many thought this was the best time for the Nets to go out and make some moves, but they chose otherwise. However, they did fill the void at GM by hiring former Assistant General Manger of the San Antonio Spurs, Sean Marks.
Looking around the league today, majority of the successful teams have roots that tie them to San Antonio. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, since there isn’t another team better at handling their business year in and year out than the Spurs.
The Nets have always been the little brother in New York, just like the Jets and the Mets. Little brothers tend to do some head-scratching things to get some of the attention in the house. The Nets have fit that role perfectly throughout the years. With the hiring of Sean Marks, you will now see the tide start to change. He will instill a much-needed foundation in this organization moving forward.
Marks knows that he left an amazing environment in San Antonio to come to a much lesser environment in Brooklyn. He also knows that if he can turn this franchise around and make them contenders, he will get more praise than he could ever receive in San Antonio. I also believe that he trusts the Nets’ hierarchy to provide him with everything he needs to rebuild this team. We’ll see what the future holds for Sean and the Nets, but I think the team chose the right man to replace Billy King.
