New York Knicks Grammy Awards

New York Knicks Grammy Awards

It’s awards season! With all the awards being given out to singers, actors & performers, we put together our own list of nominees for the Grammy’s this year. With one exception, they’re all New York Knicks.

Record of the Year

Phil Jackson – Stay With Me (Sam Smith)

By implementing the triangle offense, Phil knew it would take some time for the players to grasp the concept of it. One thing he’s been preaching, “Stay With Me”.

Carmelo Anthony – Shake It Off (Taylor Swift)

Melo, who decided to re-sign with the Knicks this summer after mulling an offer from the Bulls, isn’t having his usual year physically and statistically. This season is a lost cause so he should just “Shake It Off” and comeback next season with a, hopefully, improved roster.

Derek Fisher – Say Something (A Great Big World With Christina Aguilera)

“It’s basketball. All the rules of the game are the same. The basket’s the same height. They put their shorts on the same way you put yours on. It don’t matter who it is over there. Believe in who you are. You can play the game”

No, this wasn’t a speech to a second grade basketball team, these words came out of New York Knicks’ head coach Derek Fisher’s mouth.  Trailing the Houston Rockets, Fisher decided to call timeout and utter these words during a nationally televised game while he was mic’d up. In this case, he may have not wanted to “Say Something”.

James Dolan – All of Me (John Legend)

Before hiring Phil Jackson as President of the team, James Dolan promised that Phil could have “All of Me.” Not in the way you’re thinking right now, but all of his support and money to run the Knicks. There were reports that the team low-balled Steve Kerr and Dolan may have had something to do with it, but to this point, he’s stayed true to his word.

Record of the Year

  • Phil Jackson - Stay With Me (Sam Smith) (0%)
  • Carmelo Anthony – Shake It Off (Taylor Swift) (29%)
  • Derek Fisher – Say Something (A Great Big World With Christina Aguilera) (43%)
  • James Dolan – All of Me (John Legend) (29%)

Best Group Performance

Langston Galloway & Lance Thomas – Dark Horse (Katy Perry feat. Juicy J)

Both Galloway & Thomas went from signing two 10-day contracts to being signed for the rest of the season becoming this season’s “Dark Horses”. These two Knicks have been a huge part of the Knicks recent success (which at this point is defined as winning a few games).

Amar’e Stoudemire & Cleanthony Early – Rather Be (Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne)

Stoudemire & Early would clearly “Rather Be” in other places not called New York. Amar’e is contemplating asking the team for a buyout and headed to a contender like Dallas. Early went from being a college stud on one of the best teams in the country, Wichita State, to being a bench-warmer and being shuffled back and forth between the NBA & D-League.

JR Smith & Iman Shumpert – Bang Bang (Ariana Grande, Jessie J & Nicki Minaj)

“JR Smith for three…Bang!”. This is one of Mike Breen’s favorite lines when a big three is made, and he sure used this line a lot when JR and Iman were on the team. The two are balling in Cleveland and Phil may have just handed the Cavs a pass to the NBA Finals.

Phil Jackson & Steve Mills – The Monster (Eminem feat. Rihanna)

There’s been many who’ve tried and failed to tame “The Monster”, aka the New York Knicks, over the past years, and if Phil Jackson & Steve Mills don’t act quick, they could be next on the list.

Best Group Performance

  • Langston Galloway & Lance Thomas – Dark Horse (Katy Perry feat. Juicy J) (17%)
  • Amar’e Stoudemire & Cleanthony Early - Rather Be (Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne) (33%)
  • JR Smith & Iman Shumpert – Bang Bang (Ariana Grande, Jessie J & Nicki Minaj) (17%)
  • Phil Jackson & Steve Mills – The Monster (Eminem feat. Rihanna) (33%)

Album of the Year

Tim Hardaway Jr. – Nostalgia (Annie Lennox)

It feels like just yesterday Tim Hardaway Jr. was considered the future of the New York Knicks. This season, he’s actually regressed in every aspect of his game and hasn’t taken advantage of the fact that JR Smith & Iman Shumpert were traded. THJ is definitely feeling some “Nostalgia” after having a great rookie year.

Carmelo Anthony – In the Lonely Hour (Sam Smith)

While other players like LeBron James have been teaming up with other All-Stars and forming mega-teams, Melo has been “In the Lonely Hour”. This current roster for the Knicks includes multiple players who played in the Summer League so Carmelo hasn’t had much help, if any at all.

Jose Calderon – Lift Your Spirit (Aloe Blacc)

Through all the losing and adversity the Knicks have suffered this season, Jose Calderon has always been the one to “Lift Your Spirit”, or at least on social media. He’s been posting motivational quotes and words of encouragement on his Twitter & Instagram to let fans know, everything will turn out okay.

The New York Knicks Organization – Nobody’s Smiling (Common)

This has been one of the worst seasons in New York Knicks history. From Phil Jackson to Derek Fisher to Carmelo Anthony to the fans, “Nobody’s Smiling”.

  • Carmelo Anthony – In the Lonely Hour (Sam Smith) (50%)
  • Jose Calderon – Lift Your Spirit (Aloe Blacc) (17%)
  • The New York Knicks Organization – Nobody’s Smiling (Common) (33%)
