On Monday, April 13th, the NBA held a press conference at Terminal 23 in Manhattan, New York announcing their partnership with PepsiCo. Indra Nooyi, PepsiCo’s CEO, was on hand and said that all 22 brands that are part of the brand such as Doritos, Aquafina and Ruffles will be utilized in this new partnership. The new leading soft drink of the NBA will be Mountain Dew due to its rooted popularity with NBA fans.

Mountain Dew will also be the main sponsor for a new 3-on-3 tournament the NBA will be experimenting with in the near future. Men and women ages 18 and up in six undetermined cities in the United States will be eligible to join these tournaments thanks to this new partnership. The NBA will select six cities based on interest and eventually go national, and global, with these tournaments. We think New York has a pretty good shot at being one of these six cities that’ll have these tournaments available.

Speaking of basketball globally, the NBA is the most popular sports league in China with basketball as the most popular sport. Tingyi Holding Corp is PepsiCo’s partner in China and is also included in this deal as the NBA’s exclusive partner in the country that hosted its first NBA exhibition game over ten years ago.
