Knicks and Nets Engage in Twitter War

When one hears the word rivalry, he or she usually expects a form of competition between the two greats.

Unfortunately, this is not the case for the rivalry between the New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets. More appropriately, the competition between the two teams is for who is less terrible.

Surprisingly, both teams believe that they will land Kyrie Irving and/or Jimmy Butler during the 2019 free agency. While both players will become available in the free agency market, neither Kyrie nor Butler came to a conclusive decision as to where they will be following this next season.

According to NY Post, these speculations by fans and teams alike probably come from talks between Irving and Butler about teaming up.

So is the scenario that one or both of them will end up in one of the New York teams possible? Sure.

The New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets will have enough salary cap space available to sign two max-deal players. Both teams are located in New York and some players want this kind of experience.

As of right now, the Knicks may have more to bargain with as they possess a young star, Kristaps Porzingas. On the other hand, the Nets have a young roster with some budding stars.

However, there may be some complications that interfere with such deals going through.

First, Kristaps Porzingas was recently injured. This may not be a deal-breaker for Butler and Irving. Although, they probably will be watching his performance this year prior to making any decisions.

Second, the Nets just aren’t that popular. Irving left Cleveland in order to be in the spotlight. Butler wants a ring. The problem might not be found with the players of the New York Nets, but with the front office.

Despite these drawbacks, anything can happen in the NBA.
