After several months of negotiations battle between the New York Jets and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, a deal was finally reached.
The whole situation was becoming exhausting and the media did what they do best which is stirring up the drama even more. Rumors were circulating around the NFL that Fitzpatrick would sign elsewhere or that the Jets organization was ready to move on and give the job to Geno Smith.
But did anybody really believe that Ryan Fitzpatrick was moving on to another team? Or would the Jets really allow Smith to start? The reality is something that has been said over and over again, the Jets need Fitzpatrick and Fitzpatrick needs the Jets.
Now that the starting quarterback situation is finally cleared it up, it allows the Jets to focus on football and get ready for the upcoming season.
Brandon Marshall got his wish, as it was no secret who he wanted to be the man behind the center. He even stated on ESPN’s First Take earlier this week that he believes that Fitzpatrick is an “Elite Quarterback”. Yes, you read that correctly. Marshall has always been friendly towards his quarterbacks. Just ask Jay Cutler, who Marshall is still defending by saying he could win MVP this upcoming season.
Some look at this Jets team as a favorite to win the AFC East, especially with Tom Brady serving a four-game suspension to start the year. However, the Jets have a tough schedule for the first six weeks of the season.
They are hoping for the success that Fitzpatrick had a year ago as he threw for nearly 4,000 yards and set a franchise record with 31 touchdown passes. He had great success with the Jets receiving core, particularly Marshall and Eric Decker who have emerged as one of the top receiver duos in the game.
New York’s first preseason game is coming up against Jacksonville next week. The wait for football is almost over and the Jets season is nearly underway.
